Transit is needed in all cities not just the big cities there are some small towns in Mn that can not even get transit everyday of the week and Lots of bridges are in very bad shape including railroad bridges underpasses lets get the job done the time is now... support this now
I dont think it is right to cut the public transportation service. First of all, while everyone is promoting reduction CO2 emission, we should decrease the car usage. We need to promote residents to use public transportation. Second, the fundamental problem that people do not want to use public transportation is the service is not well-developed. We need better public transportation network instead of wasting money on toll road or unnecessary fixing average condition roads. It wil be inconvenient to cut the service. America is a big strong country but has the less developed transportation system among the industrial countries. We need to promote and build better public transportation system instead of getting rid of some routes.
Decent public transportation in southern California is long overdue. Traffic is getting worse and close to being intolerable. Perhaps there is a notion that Southern Californians love their cars too much to adopt public transport, but the reality is that good public transportation is virtually non-existent so Californians drive as a necessity more than we do as a choice. I know I'd rather use a light rail than sit in the horrible traffic that plagues every single freeway.
Last summer while in Europe I was amazed how easy it was to walk, take a bus, or take a train to almost anywhere you needed to go. It would be so nice to be able to do that here, but it seems like it's always just easier to drive. I think we could benefit a lot from some better transportation systems.
Improving public transportation, roads, and bridges is extremely important. Please reconsider the budget allocations to accommodate the growing need for mass transport, public transport, and alternative methods of saving gas and the environment.
We really need good public transportation. It is stupid to claim sustainability and a Green Earth if we expect people to not use cars and depend on sucky transportation.
People need to get places, it doesn't matter how they get there, they just need dependability. Without that, we'll continue killing the Earth.
I would love to have good alternative transportation options. There is nothing worse than sitting in traffic to get home in half-an-hour at around 10 mph. I could bike about as fast to get home as it would take me to get home in a car during rush hours. The only problem is that some roads don't have bicycle lanes, and they aren't wide enough to allow bicycles and cars to pass comfortably. So I would definitely embrace any sort of funding that widens the roads that need bicycle lanes. And stop funding inefficient OCTA buses, unless they are proven to be faster than a bicycle. In many cases, they are not.. which really shouldn't be the case. In fact, they should get priority at the traffic lights so that it encourages people to ride public transit rather than waste gas on cars. This would free up some lanes on some roads for light rail, if they wanted to implement such a system.
I bike to UCI about 3 times a week at least, to get some exercise, but also to stop sitting in traffic :) However, the roads could definitely use some repairs/improvements, as there are potholes in some areas and others aren't wide enough (as said above) for a car and bike to fit comfortably side by side, without the bike resorting to using the gutter. Plus the improvements would hopefully help save some accidents, since evasive maneuvers could be taken with wider roads :)
One Saturday ago, I was coming back to Irvine by train on the way back from LA. I wanted to go back to my school, UC Irvine, however there was no public transit around that went to UCI. I was walking all over Irvine trying to find any bus stops or buses that have UCI as a stop and I couldn't find any. I was lost by myself, ending up in the Irvine business plaza until eventually I went inside some office and was able to call my aunt to pick me up there. It was an extreme hassle and I think it would be much easier if we had some form of public transit that goes to UCI 7 days a week from different parts of the city.
Personally I feel that it is a waste of tax payer money to spend on another freeway lane. I think it would be in the best interest of the citizens, who after all do elect you to represent our needs, to invest in mass transit. It's economical and in these hard times it would create more jobs.
I think this is a great idea. Not only will we be cutting down on traffic, but also on gas and the amount of driving time we spend in our cars. It would be more affordable and make it easier for others that cannot afford private transportation.
I've rode light rails in Pheonix, AZ dozens of times and it has definitely made traffic better! It's a smooth ride.
Current projects don't reach the people who need it. In Irvine, we have spent $120 million towards a corporate shuttle that only benefits the jet-setters that don't need it anyway with their Porsches and Beamers!
Our freeways are so congested right now. To get from school to work, I have to drive from Irvine to San Diego, and not only were the roads horrible but traffic would get in a gridlock. Some days, it was a 3 hour commute!
We have to think about future generations and all the pollution cars are putting on the road!
As a university student away from home, I make frequent trips to and from home as well as other universities. Many other students do the same and all use cars to get places. Freeways are only getting more congested and it would be nice to have an alternative mode of transport that has been tried and true.
I am a transfer student at UC Irvine, and I did not bring my car with me when I left Northern California because of the outrageous parking prices here on-campus. I have been using public transportation to get around Irvine and the surrounding areas, and while the OCTA is a good system, more means are certainly needed, not only for convenience and easier mobilization, but also to help boost the status of an economy in recession. More public transit, and easier access to it, can only help by stimulating movement in the working world, clearing traffic on the clogged freeways, and revitalizing property values and business prospects.
Currently buses are unreliable, dirty, and does not go where I need to go. If you follow these guidelines transportation will be more efficient and convenient, and in popular demand.
Please support this petition! It will make transportation much more efficient and safe for residents in California. It addition, considering the amount of attention people place on the environment these days, your support will show that California's government cares about the welfare of the world that we live in!
i dont use it now because there are a lot of roads that need to be made again. We need better transportation that i believe will create better transportation and will improve the economy. More tourism
I bike to school (UC Irvine) from Fountain Valley, a total of 24 miles a day over local roads. Please, please try to build more roads with bike-friendly lanes and intersections. It would greatly improve my chances of surviving in an urban area crowded with too many cars on the roads. With the benefit of more bike lanes, hopefully more people will be encouraged to use more bikes, get more exercise, and have less time spent waiting for a light or sitting in traffic. Thank you.
With the economy doing so poorly, I've been trying to save money by taking public transit more frequently to avoid cutting back on having fun. However it's been more difficult to do so with cutbacks in transportation, which means that I'm considering staying home and reducing my spending even further, which I feel will hurt the economy.
I don't like how some of the roads have a bunch of potholes, cracks and are in terrible condition in the cities like Westminster/Garden Grove/Fountain Valley. A specific example is Golden West Street by the 405 Freeway.
I've spent a lot of time on the rail system in Japan .. I know just how efficient and convenient it can be when done right. Let's take models like that and bring it to all of America!
I tell everyone about the public transportation here in Irvine, but then I don't tell them everything about it because I'm afraid they would not think it was efficient enough. As a student I feel that the buses should run a little bit later at night and have possibly have more stops to popular destinations.
In my current city, the public transportation system is very inefficient. Being a student, it is difficult to rely on the bus system and other options of transportation would be appreciated.
