The bonus mess at AIG is just a symptom of the larger problem-- too many government bailouts of private institutions.

Just as important as the bonuses to the very executives who created the mess is the fact that AIG is using tax dollars to pay off its large counterparties. Thanks to the "rescue" designed by Sec. Geithner, taxpayers are paying tens of billions of dollars to banks like Goldman Sachs.
